So, turns out getting really into MGQ: Paradox, a game designed from the ground up to take months to go through, has had a negative effect on my ability to actually complete anything. Who knew?

So here's a different game, of a much more manageable length.

Despite this being mostly a retread of something I'd just played, I still had a lot of fun with it.

With Fantasy Maiden Wars having left me in a Touhou mood, clearly I was going to keep playing Touhou fangames. Here's another of the better-known ones, a successor to the old Touhou Puppet Play (aka Touhoumon) ROM hacks.

The basic conceit behind Fantasy Maiden Wars is simple enough. Touhou is cool, Super Robot Wars is cool, so combining them should be extra cool, right?

And that is definitely right. But leaving it at that would be the worst disservice possible to this absolute masterpiece developer Sanbondo has given us.

Way back in the day I used to read the pioneering (not a suggestion that it might even remotely measure up to my current standards) webcomic Bob and George, one of the first to use repurposed and edited sprites from classic video games (Mega Man in its case) to tell its story. One of the more interesting original characters it had wasn't actually created by the author: this character, Ran, was instead designed by a forum user (also known as Ran) and appeared in a few different comics made by people on the site's forums as well as Bob and George itself. Ran's gimmick was that he was created on a shoestring budget out of, and I quote, "cheap communist parts" that not only left him so weak literally any impact would kill him, but were so cheap in fact that building a system to make a replacement body and transfer his consciousness to it every time something killed him was cheaper than fixing that problem. So you'd get a lot of gags about him dying to extremely comically harmless things (which were so common that they were old hat by the time the main comic's author got permission to use him), along with the odd bit about how bizarrely difficult he was to kill for someone who died to everything you can think of and everything you can't think of.

Wind I Creator's main conceit is basically the same idea as that.

Yet again I find myself talking about an obscure but very cool RPG Maker game. I'm not about to complain about typecasting myself this way, though.

And this one? It's definitely something special.

FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU

You are doing JACK FUCKING SHIT to help the image of the products and services you're trying to market by forcing people who just want to have something on in the background to hear 30 seconds of non-audio balanced plugs for random bullshit every 5 minutes or so. If anything you're just associating them with that annoyance.

I know you idiots failed upward so hard you forgot to learn what human beings actually goddamn like and will get more money than most of us will ever see even as your moronic decisions run the companies you work for into the ground, but would it kill you to figure out how to do your jobs for once?

(Wouldn't be surprised if the answer is yes.)

Every time something I'm watching gets interrupted mid-goddamn-word by a disembodied voice screaming about cheese snacks or some such bullshit, my reaction is to start hating the cheese snacks in question. I don't think I'm alone in this, either.

Oh yeah, and it also makes the platform less useful because if you have a video you were watching that you left and want to pick up again from where you were, now you have to wait for the ads to shut the fuck up before you can skip ahead.

Not that you care, of course. Not like making everyone hate things for no reason's gonna stop you from being able to buy your yachts, after all.

We finally got a port of the last major game still stuck on Wii U. What is it that made Xenoblade Chronicles X such a hotly desired rerelease?

There's something about this planet, I guess.

There is not a soul in existence who can convince me that Cosmic Fantasy 2 is some sort of forgotten classic.
